Engine Listing FAQ's |
|
What is a Search Engine? |
|
A Search Engine is a huge database with
information on web pages/sites. A user goes to a search engine site and enters keywords in
search box. The massive database is searched and returns links to web page that match the
search criteria. |
|
|
How many search engines and
directories are there? |
|
Hundreds. However, according to the
statistics, 8 search engines bring 95% of all traffic to web sites. These include Yahoo,
Excite, InfoSeek, Alta Vista, Lycos, HotBot as well as other specialized Internet
directories. Some companies may
send you e-mail claiming that they will list you in 500 Search Engines for a fee. We
recommend you question such offers. |
|
|
Can you list our site and get us to
the top of the search engine lists? |
|
Yes, we offer this specialized service.
Our staff spends a great deal of time researching and understanding the search engines,
and the tips and tricks to increase success. We have a good understanding of how to
improve site positioning, and have been successful doing so. However, we make no
guarantees that your site will be at the top of any search engine listing as they
constantly change their ranking logic. In fact, we recommend your site be re-submitted
quarterly to maintain proper positioning. |
|
|
What do I need to provide you to
list our site? |
|
We will program your pages with META
Keywords and Descriptions as well as implement some of our other tricks. We require a comma separated list of 15-30
keywords that best describe your business and products. When developing this list, view it
from the perspective of how people will search for your site on a search engine. Also, we
will need a 25 word or less summary description of your company/products. This information
can be emailed to us and we will begin the listing process. |
|
|
How long will it take for my site to
get listed? |
|
Most search engines are automated.
After we submit your web site it can take 1 day to 6 weeks for the database to update
depending on their loads. Listing
on Yahoo:
Yahoo is not a search engine, but rather a Directory. It is managed by humans who review
every single entry submitted to it. The latest numbers state that Yahoo accepts only 25%
of submissions. We will repeat the submission process with them 2-3 times, but will not
guarantee your site will be listed as they have the final say. |
